Sports in Vennesla
Written by: Kenneth, Kristian & Stian.
In Vennesla we have a tradition for sports. Most of the people living here
really enjoy it, in one way or another. Some are
active, and are involved in one of our many athletic clubs. And some enjoy just going to
watch a football match or a handball
match in one of our local stadiums. People in Vennesla have enjoyed sports for centuries.
Our newest athletic club is Vindbjart Football Club. Previously there has been two
football clubs, but they agreed that there
was no need for two clubs. So now they are really putting a lot of effort into making it
work. The club has lasted for a year
now. And they really succeeded this year with second place in 3rd division.
VINBJART FOOTBALL CLUB belongs to VENNESLA ATHLETIC CLUB. And Vennesla athletic club
consists of al lot of different sport groups. Here are some things about them:
VINDBJART HANDBALL has problems with recruiting and the sport results are not the best
either. A couple of years ago
they were in the second division, and everything went well. But then all the
"stars" quit, and it all fell apart.
VENNESLA CLIMBING CLUB started about four
years ago. They are about 50 members and most of the members are
under 18 years old. It is a growing activity here in Vennesla!
VENNESLA SWIMMING CLUB: They have been in
the Norwegian Championship, and taken one fourth position and one
ninth position. They have competed international, and done very well! They have about one
hundred members, divided into six
groups. You must be over five and under twenty-six years old to be able to be a member.
They train five times a week. There
are mainly girls in the club. Once a year they use to have a training-camp in France.
Ohh
I almost forgot to tell you about the brand new athletic club, which started in
the beginning of 1999. In KVARSTEIN
ATHLETIC CLUB there is about 400 members, and has these activities:
VOLLEYBALL: There are two volleyball teams.
One for children from 13 to 18 years, and one for grown ups over 18 years
old. They is only training once a week, but they play very well.
INSIDE BANDY: It is almost the same as land
hockey, but without roller blades. There is only one inside bandy team, and it
is for grown ups men over 18 years old. They also train once a week.
AEROBICS: There are two groups doing
aerobics. They train twice a week.
THE TRAINING CENTRE: There is everything
there! Spinning, aerobics, weight-lifting. Everything! You name it they got it!
As you can tell out of the texts, football is the most popular sport in Vennesla. But also
handball, climbing, swimming, inside
bandy, Volleyball and aerobics are very popular sports.
