General information about "Vennesla" municipality

"Vennesla" is a municipality in the county of "Vest-Agder" north of "Kristiansand". It's 386 km2. There were 11951 inhabitants in 1998. Most of the inhabitants live in the southeast.

For example at "Hunsfoss", "Vikeland", "Kvarstein" and "Moseidmoen"

"Moseidmoen" is the biggest housing project in this area. Other areas built up in the same way are "Ilebekk", "Samkom", "Mølla" and "Eikeland".

There are many nationalities in Vennesla. There are people from Chile, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Bosnia, Irak, Iran, India, China, Albania, Colombia, Philippines and of course Norway too.

Some of these people have opened a Chinese restaurant and a Thai Asian Food store. And all the children from these nationalities attend school together with Norwegian children, and some of them have mother tongue instruction.

"Vennesla" has got a hundred year - old industrial history developed around utilisation of water supply power from the river "Otra". Today "Vennesla" is an important industrial municipality, first and foremost in the timber manufacturing, among others, "Hunsfoss" factory.

In addition this forestry and farming are very important in "Vennesla".

The forestry makes paper products.

In the northeast, close to our neighbouring county "Aust-Agder", and in the east and southeast the river Otra runs. In the southeast there are plains and sandmoors. The scenery is hilly. There are also large forest areas. The altitude varies from ten metres above sea level in the southeast, to five hundred metres above sea level in northwest. There are some small ponds and watercourses.
