Water consummation in Vennesla municipality

In Vennesla the access to water is good, both when it comes to ground water and fresh drinking water. The average waterconsummation is about 250 litres in each household every day. In general, each household in Vennesla consists of 3-4 persons with an average usage of less than 100 litres per person each day. This includes all water usage, where the most of the usage each day goes to showering, laundering and toilet use, but also to activities like cooking. In the summer additional water is spent on irrigation. During dry periods restrictions are often put on irrigation, as an effort to save water. The lagre industries in the municipality use little water. Factories like Hunsfos and Vigeland Brug use water from the local river Otra in the production, but they also use ordinary drinking water.

The average usage of deinkingwater in Norway is about 130 litres per person per day. This can be interpreted in the direction that Vennesla is approximately on an average level. In comparison to another country like Canada where they use about 225 litres per person each day, we use relatively small amounts of water here in Norway. The reason may be that we spend relatively little water on outdoor usage, and that we have another "culture" on spending water here in Norway. It also is a lot of percipitation in Canada, which gives them exeptionally good access to cheap water.

But as we know the water usage in Norway has a higher limit for overuse than in other countries which are much dryer. In dry and highly populated countries and areas, there often are examples that the groundwaterresources are destroyed because this capcity is not taken care of.  If it falls a small amount of rain during the year, that will mean it takes a long time to refill groundwater. Other places this opportunity is destroyed, because the ground sinks together, when the water is taken out.

To prevent overuse we can, and must, start a lot of works to preserve water. This means for example to build cleansingstations so that the water can be recycled. And saltwater can also be cleansed to freshwater.

How much water do we spend on our daily doings?

Toilet

circa 12 litres

Shower

circa 22 litres per minute (without water efficient shower rose)

Bathtub

circa 150 litres (full)

Clothes washer

circa 120 litres (full machine)

Dishwasher

circa 45/25 litres (old/new)

Bathroom faucet

circa 10 litres per minute (on full power)
