Vennesla is a little town, but they have big problems with major effluents. Hunsfos Fabrikker A/S is an example of that. They have an enormous effluent. They produce paper articles. Also Vigeland Bruk and Norsk Wallboard pollute in Vennesla. It is also now and then heavy traffic from large vehicles, that drive through Vennesla, heading north in Norway. Støleheia, which is a waste disposal site, submits many poisonous substances. In a newspaperarticle, Fedrelandsvennen established the fact that the effluent of CO2 had increased 230 percent from 1991 to 1999. The explanation was, according to Fedrelandsvennen, that the industry had made a greater effluent.

In the period from 1991 to 1997 the release of climate-gases increased 123%. One of the reasons for this is that petrolium-goods have been cheaper than electrical power. In 1991 the electricity was cheaper. And if changes are not made one must account for a further 27% increase in the period 1991-2010.

The total releaces of climate-gases per inhabitant in 1997 is high compared with the rest of Norway. Stationary combustion includes the biggest release of gases, and are thereby increasing the average pollution. This goes espesially for the manufacturing industry in Vennesla. Among these are Hunsfos, Norsk Wallboard and Vigeland Metal Refinery. The release of gases from these indutries lies high above the average in Norway. Other releases from mobile sources and processing are under average when  it comes to pollution.

As we can see the main reason for Vennesla's high effluent of climate-gases is stationary combustion. This is because Vennesla has many factories compared to other cities in Vest-Agder. The continious effluent from Hunsfoss and Norsk Wallboard must take part of the blame for this, but without these factories the unemployment rate in Vennesla would increase dramatically.
