The consequences of the factory effluents from Vigeland Metal Refinery:

The fluoride effluents from Vigeland Metal Refinery (VMR) were so extensive that they have done noticeable damage on trees and plants within three kilometers away.

The damage on the nature included everything from dead leaves to cones that changed form. Also a plant like the lily of the valley has has been damaged from these effluents.

  • There were noticeable symptoms of fluoride damages on many treesorts that were found within a radius of 500 metres from the factory. Up to three kilometres both south and north from the factory, there were found damages on especially sensitive species.

  • All the tests in the examined area (from five kilometres north and three kilometres south of the factory) showed values of flourides over the natural level. Within the same area you find damages on sensitive species.

  • The consentrations of flourides in the air were measured to a level which in a few weeks can give damages to sensitive species.
