Use of alcoholic beverages among Christian youth in Vennesla

To find which relationships Christian youths in Vennesla have to alcohol, and to Christians who use alcohol, we have made a questionnaire and distributed it to youth between the ages of 13 and 18, pupils in lower- and upper secondary school. In the research we asked 21 boys and 44 girls.

Judging from the answers to the questionnaire, we have figured out that the intake of alcohol among Christian youths is high, and it appears that there are more girls than boys who drink alcohol. (Klick here for more information)

People often ask themselves, whether those who drink alcohol have the right to call themselves Christians. According to the answers we received from our questionnaire most Christians feel that drinking does not interfere with Christianity. This might seem like a contradiction in terms, seeing that most people find it wrong to drink when you call yourself a Christian.

Those who associate with people who normally drink alcohol, often have a more positive attitude towards usage of alcohol. 33% of those who associate with people whom normally drink alcohol, think that it is wrong to drink alcohol. But among youths associate with people who do not drink alcohol, 57% think it is wrong to drink alcohol. (Klick here for more information)

People say that Christian youths should have a closer relationship to the word of God than to the use of alcohol. Is alcohol about to ruin the traditional "good" reputation to young Christians?

We started with a hypothesis, that Christians drink more than what is commonly believed, and more than they themselves claims. It turned out that this is confirmed by the survey.
