 The drinking water in Vennesla

There are lots of drinking water sources in Vennesla, such as Solknipen, Homstean, Haegeland, Røyknes, Samkombekken and the Drivenes island. The Drivenes island is the main drinking water source in Vennesla, and gives water to the greater part of Vennesla.

The Local Authorities in Vennesla spend millions to maintain the drinking water sources. They have for example built new   local wells that are shallower than the old ones, because there was a problem with Chloride in the deeper wells.

The Local Authorities have a proper routine check once a month. If the water is bad, the Food Authorities report it to the Board of Health, that tells the local doctor, which again inform the inhabitants of Vennesla of the reduced quality of the drinking water. Action is immediately taken to improve the quality.
The most common problem, is that water from polluted sources, gets into the pipes. The three last times the water sources were checked were the 8th of April, 6th of May and 21st of May this year.
It was the Drivenes island that topped all the statistics of cleanest water. Solknipen is the drinking water source which has caused the Local Atuthorities most trouble.

The Food Control Authorities, sanction the drinking water sources, and the demands are high. It shall not be over 100 bacterium pr. litre. Then it must be chlorinazed.
Surface water has to be chlorinazed anyway. The pH-value has to be around 8,0, and the water shall be around 6-7 degrees. In Vennesla the pH-value is around 7,5. People that live scattered, choose to make their own wells, and then they have to send tests to the local authorities to sanction the drinking water, because it may contain Radon. There is seldom reported that someone has been ill because of the drinking water. A few years ago some people got diarea. Probably some farmers had manured the water.

The drinking water in Vennesla lies on the upper half compared to other local authorities in the county Vest- Agder. Compared to other towns in other countries, the water in Vennesla is very good.
