Vennesla
Introduction:
This is a questionnaire answered by pupils
qualifying for
college or university (allmennfag) at Vennesla videregående skole in February 1999.47
boys and 48 girls participated.
We distributed the questionnaire to three freedman classes and three senior classes. These
are all taking general/ economic/ mercantile/ management subjects. The reason for
this, is that these pupils all qualify for higher education after successfully finishing
secondary school.
We posed these questions:

In the six classes there are 158 pupils, but only 95 pupils
responded, 47 boys and 48 girls. Everybody replies that they would continue their
studies after secondary education.
32 of the boys preferred a college education, 13 preferred university studies, while 2
chose other options.
33 of the girls stated that they would like to go to college, 14 preferred the university
studies, and 1 chose other options.
Boys and girls are fairly evenly matched here.
When asked if they would like to consider working in Vennesla after finishing secondary
education, 26 of the boys and 29 of the girls answered no.
17 boys and 15 girls wanted to get a job here, while 4 boys and 3 girls had not made up
their minds.
28 boys and 20 girls did not want to start working immediately after finishing secondary
school, even if they should get a job offer straight away.
12 boys and 22 girls might get a job, but only 7 boys and 6 girls would definitely take
the job if offered.
